John Richards
Years on Board: 3

Brief Description of your board service:
While my true expertise lies in the building and grounds area (my 1st year as a board member that's what I did). I though that since I'm not a professional artist I could be an effective, unbiased president. I can stay focused on what RAA does for the community and organize the efforts of those on the board with a stronger art background.

What do you forsee for RAA in the near future?
Notoriety - I want people out and about on gallery nights asking each other :Have you been to RAA yet?" Also, advances in the Art From the Heart program - hopefully reaching more local students.

Your relationship to art:
As a professional carpenter I have an occasional art fix from my work. I've done some wooden sculpture, mostly functional; I'm just now beginning to paint.

Piece of artwork you own:
A b&w photo by Aimee L. Marshall entitled Barn Lamp. I like it because it's especially abstract for a photograph. It's very obvious what it is, and yet you can look at it and forget what it is.

Piece of artwork you'd like to own:
Mark Concannon's hairpiece - very abstract and quite a conversation piece.

Achievements/affiliations:
If I go back to school it would just be to have a shot at college jeopardy where to quesitons are really easy. I've always dreamed of having a book published - I should probably write one someday.

Your Q&A:
If an hour was added to every day what would you do with it?
1/2 hour reading and 1/2 hour writing. And if I could take an hour out of every day? the 5pm hour - that much less local news on TV - "Coming up next...my giant ego allows me to explain to you in children's terms why you shouldn't stick your hand into a running snow blower..."
